BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION

 

Associate of Science Degree

Purpose:  The Associate of Science degree curriculum in Business Administration is designed for persons who plan to transfer to a four-year college or university to complete a baccalaureate degree program in Business Administration with a major in Accounting, Business Management, Decision Science and Management, Information Systems, Finance, Marketing, etc.

Transfer Information:  Since four-year colleges can vary in their course and GPA requirements for the business major, please consult a counselor or academic advisor regarding specific requirements and course selection.

Recommended Preparation:  Satisfactory completion of the following high school units or equivalent: 4 units of English; 2 units of mathematics (algebra and geometry); 1 unit of laboratory science; and 1 unit of social studies.

1 HIS elective may be selected from the HIS courses listed under the social/behavioral sciences courses listed under General Education Electives. HIS 101, 102, 121, 122 is recommended.

2 Students may select any of the following combinations of MTH courses: MTH 163 + 271 (6 cr.); MTH 271 + 241 (6 cr.); MTH 166 + 271 (8 cr.); MTH 271 + 272 (6 cr.); MTH 271 + 173 (8 cr.); or MTH 173 + 174 (10 cr.). Statistics by itself (MTH 241 + 242) is not permitted because business students need calculus.

3 The science elective may be selected from biology, chemistry, physics, geology, or natural science courses with a lab component, listed under General Education Electives. Some four-year colleges require a two-semester sequence.

4 Students may substitute the SDV 101 Orientation section related to this program.

5 ENG 125 may be substituted with the advice of a counselor or academic advisor according to requirements of transfer institutions.

6 The CST elective may be selected from the following: CST 100, 110, 115, 126, 227 or 229.

7 Consult your advisor for assistance in selecting general electives that will meet requirements of the institution to which you plan to transfer. BUS 221-222 and MTH 241-242 and ITE 140 will meet GMU business major core requirements.

8 Humanities/fine arts elective may be selected from the humanities/fine arts courses listed under General Education Electives. Electives should be selected with advice of a counselor or faculty advisor academic advisor to meet requirements of transfer institution.
