WEL 161 - Flux Cored Arc Welding (FCAW) (3 CR.)

Course Description

Introduces flux cored semi-automatic welding processes with emphasis on practical application. Includes the study of filler wires, fluxes, and gases. Lecture 2 hours. Laboratory 3 hours. Total 5 hours per week.

General Course Purpose

Provides the student with introductory and intermediate skill in Flux Cored Arc Welding process in all positions, and training to pass welder qualification tests in the FCAW process. The course is intended for intermediate level students.

Course Objectives

Upon completion of the course the student will be able to:

  • Execute satisfactory welds using Flux Cored Arc Welding with and without gas in the flat position and complete a 1G Welder Qualification Tests on carbon steel plate to AWS D1.1 Structural Welding Code- Steel
  • Execute satisfactory welds using Flux Cored Arc Welding with and without gas in the horizontal position and complete a 2G Welder Qualification Tests on carbon steel plate to AWS D1.1 Structural Welding Code- Steel
  • Execute satisfactory welds using Flux Cored Arc Welding with and without gas in the vertical position and complete a 3G Welder Qualification Tests on carbon steel plate to AWS D1.1 Structural Welding Code- Steel
  • Execute satisfactory welds using Flux Cored Arc Welding with and without gas in the overhead position and complete a 4G Welder Qualification Tests on carbon steel plate to AWS D1.1 Structural Welding Code- Steel
  • Weld Pipe in 2F, 3F & 4F positions using FCAW process, carbon steel base metal
  • Weld Pipe with backing in 1G positions using FCAW process, carbon steel base metal
