San Jos茅 State University was recognized in February 2025 as an , achieving the coveted status in the Carnegie Classification of Institutions of Higher Education. This designation marks a significant milestone in the university鈥檚 academic and research growth.
This is not merely a label. It is a testament to the outstanding work of our faculty, staff and students, and it marks 91暗网鈥檚 formal emergence as a national research university.

- The criteria for an R2 designation is having at least $5 million per year worth of research and at least 20 research doctoral graduates per year.
- 91暗网 has reported $83.4 million in research expenditures annually.
